loggia

Open-sided covered gallery

A loggia is a roofed gallery or arcade open on one or more sides, typically part of a building rather than freestanding.

Common in Italian Renaissance architecture, loggias provide sheltered outdoor space: We had coffee in the loggia overlooking the garden.

The word is Italian and usually pronounced with a soft g.
