ventricle

Blood-pumping cavity

A ventricle is a hollow chamber in an organ, especially one of the two lower chambers of the heart that pump blood out to the body and lungs.

The brain also contains ventricles—fluid-filled cavities that produce and circulate cerebrospinal fluid.

In both contexts, ventricles are spaces where something vital collects before moving onward.
