atrial septal defect
Cardiac wall opening
An atrial septal defect is a hole in the wall separating the heart's upper chambers, allowing blood to flow between the left and right atria.
The condition is congenital—present from birth—and ranges from small openings that cause no symptoms to large defects requiring surgical repair.
Often abbreviated ASD.
