atrioventricular

Between heart chambers

Atrioventricular describes the anatomical relationship between the atria and ventricles of the heart—the upper and lower chambers, respectively.

The term appears most often in medical contexts discussing the heart's electrical conduction system: the atrioventricular node regulates the timing of heartbeats by controlling signals passing from atria to ventricles.

An atrioventricular block is a condition where this signal transmission is impaired or delayed.
