mitral
Between heart chambers
Mitral means shaped like a miter—the tall, pointed ceremonial hat worn by bishops.
The term appears almost exclusively in anatomy: the mitral valve controls blood flow between the left atrium and ventricle of the heart, its two flaps resembling a bishop's headwear.
Mitral valve prolapse and mitral stenosis are common cardiac conditions.
