Rameses

Ancient Nile monarch

Rameses is a name borne by eleven pharaohs of ancient Egypt, most famously Rameses II (also spelled Ramesses), who ruled for over sixty years in the 13th century BCE and is often identified with the pharaoh of the biblical Exodus.

The name means "Ra has fashioned him," referring to the sun god.

The colossal statues at Abu Simbel depict Rameses II.
