ten plagues
Moses's divine arsenal
The ten plagues are the catastrophes God inflicted on Egypt in the biblical book of Exodus to compel Pharaoh to free the Israelites from slavery—blood, frogs, lice, flies, livestock disease, boils, hail, locusts, darkness, and the death of firstborn sons.
The phrase extends to any series of disasters or afflictions: Budget cuts, staff turnover, and a data breach—the ten plagues of our fiscal year.
