Ramses
Nile throne name
Ramses is a name borne by eleven pharaohs of ancient Egypt, most famously Ramses II (the Great), who ruled for sixty-six years and left monuments throughout Egypt.
The name appears in biblical accounts of the Exodus.
Modern usage is almost exclusively as a historical reference: the temple of Ramses at Abu Simbel.
Also spelled Ramesses.
