Hades
Realm of shades
In Greek mythology, Hades is both the god of the underworld and the underworld itself—the realm where souls go after death.
Unlike the Christian hell, Hades was not primarily a place of punishment but simply the abode of the dead.
The name appears in discussions of classical mythology, comparative religion, and as a literary or dramatic substitute for "hell": They descended into Hades. (Lowercase hades is a mild oath.)
