pylon
Electrical transmission tower
A pylon is a tall structure marking or supporting something.
Pylons flank the entrances to Egyptian temples—massive tapered gateways.
Modern pylons are steel towers carrying electrical cables across landscapes, or tall cones marking lanes and obstacles on roads and runways.
In architecture, any tower-like supporting structure may be called a pylon: the pylons of a suspension bridge.
