film
Analog photography medium
Film is a thin layer or coating: a film of dust, a film of oil on water.
The word extends to the thin flexible strip coated with light-sensitive material used in photography, and from there to motion pictures generally: We watched a film about the war.
Film can sound more artistic or British than movie.
As a verb, to film is to record with a camera: They filmed the documentary over three years.
