Roman emperors
Rulers of antiquity
Roman emperors were the rulers of ancient Rome from Augustus (27 BCE) through the fall of the Western Empire (476 CE) and the Byzantine continuation until 1453.
The title combined military, political, and religious authority.
References to Roman emperors often evoke absolute power, imperial decadence, or civilization's rise and fall: He thinks he's a Roman emperor, the way he demands service.
