mummy

Ancient Egyptian remains

A mummy is a dead body preserved from decay, either through deliberate embalming (as in ancient Egypt) or natural conditions like extreme cold or dryness.

The word also means mother in British child speech and informal usage: I want my mummy.

To mummify is to preserve a body or become dried and shriveled.
