Canaan
Ancient Levantine region
Canaan is the ancient name for the region roughly corresponding to modern-day Israel, Palestine, Lebanon, and parts of Jordan and Syria.
In the Hebrew Bible, it is the land God promised to Abraham and his descendants, making it central to Jewish, Christian, and Islamic traditions.
The term appears frequently in religious contexts referring to the "Promised Land" that the Israelites sought after their exodus from Egypt.
The Israelites wandered forty years before entering Canaan.
