Bats and innings

Baseball is a bat-and-ball sport played between two teams of nine players who take turns batting and fielding.

The batting team tries to hit a pitched ball and advance around four bases to score runs; the fielding team tries to get batters and runners out.

Baseball is deeply associated with American culture—as American as baseball and apple pie—though it's also popular in Japan, Latin America, and the Caribbean.

A baseball is also the ball itself: a hard sphere with raised red stitching.
