Cuba
South of Florida
Cuba is an island nation in the Caribbean Sea, the largest island in the West Indies, located about 90 miles south of Florida.
It has been governed as a socialist state since Fidel Castro's 1959 revolution, which transformed it into a Cold War flashpoint and led to decades of U.S. embargo.
The country is known for its vintage American cars, cigars, rum, and distinctive music including son and salsa.
Relations between the U.S. and Cuba have thawed somewhat in recent years.
