reggaeton
Puerto Rican dancehall
Reggaeton is a music genre that emerged from Puerto Rico in the 1990s, blending Latin Caribbean rhythms with hip-hop and electronic dance music.
Its signature is the "dembow" beat—a syncopated, driving rhythm that makes the genre instantly recognizable.
Lyrics are typically in Spanish and often focus on dancing, partying, and sexuality: The club was playing reggaeton all night.
The genre has become globally popular, influencing mainstream pop music.
