Cuba liberation conflict
The Spanish-American War was an 1898 conflict between the United States and Spain, triggered by the explosion of the USS Maine in Havana harbor and American support for Cuban independence.
Spain's defeat ended its colonial presence in the Americas and Pacific, with the U.S. acquiring Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines.
The war marked America's emergence as a global power.
