Haiti
Western Hispaniola nation
Haiti is a Caribbean nation occupying the western third of the island of Hispaniola, which it shares with the Dominican Republic.
It became the first independent Black republic in 1804 after a successful slave revolution against French colonial rule.
The country has faced persistent political instability, poverty, and natural disasters, particularly the devastating 2010 earthquake.
Haitian refers to the people, culture, or Creole language.
