slavery
Forced labor system
Slavery is the condition of being owned by another person as property, forced to work without freedom or pay.
The enslaved person has no legal rights and can be bought, sold, or inherited.
By extension, slavery describes any situation of extreme subjugation or compulsion: wage slavery, slavery to fashion.
She escaped slavery through the Underground Railroad.
