carnival

Rides and games

A carnival is a traveling amusement show with rides, games, and sideshows, typically set up temporarily in towns and fairgrounds.

The word also refers to a period of public festivity before Lent, especially the elaborate celebrations in places like Rio de Janeiro and New Orleans: Carnival season brings parades and costumes.

By extension, any wild, chaotic scene can be called a carnival: The press conference turned into a carnival.
