bolero
Waist-length topper
A bolero is a short jacket that ends at or above the waist, often worn open and with no fastening.
The garment takes its name from the bolero, a Spanish dance in triple time characterized by sharp turns and sudden pauses, typically accompanied by castanets and guitar.
The dance gave rise to a musical form, most famously Ravel's orchestral piece of the same name.
In Latin America, bolero also refers to a slow, romantic style of song that emerged in Cuba.
