slope
Hillside's defining feature
A slope is a surface that lies at an angle rather than flat or level, like the slope of a hill or a roof.
The word also denotes the degree of such an incline, measured as a ratio of vertical rise to horizontal run: The slope of the driveway made it treacherous in winter.
In mathematics, slope describes the steepness of a line on a graph.
As a verb, slope means to incline or slant in a particular direction.
The plural slopes often refers specifically to ski hills: We hit the slopes every weekend in January.
