grade
Slope or mark
Grade, in all of its uses, implies a range or continuum of values or degrees of quality.
In the U.S., grade denotes any of the 12 years of compulsory education (first grade, eighth grade), and also the evaluative marks received by students for their work: My math grade is an A.
Many commodities and foods are distinguished in quality by grade (Grade A sheepskin).
When you grade something, you assign it a degree of quality on a scale; in other words, a grade.
The grade of a road is the degree to which it slopes.
