rate of change

How fast something changes

Rate of change measures how quickly one quantity varies relative to another.

In mathematics, it's the ratio of change in a dependent variable to change in an independent variable—the slope of a line, or in calculus, the derivative at a point.

More broadly, any measurement of how fast something shifts: The rate of change in housing prices has slowed, Climate scientists track the rate of change in global temperatures.
