strata
Parallel rock beds
Strata is the plural of stratum—layers of material, especially in geology where rock forms in horizontal beds over time.
The word extends to any layered arrangement: social strata, strata of management.
In Australian English, strata also refers to a system of property ownership in multi-unit buildings: strata fees, strata title.
