batter
Pancake mix, uncooked
Batter has two unrelated meanings.
One is a mixture of flour, eggs, and liquid used in cooking—pancake batter, cake batter, tempura batter.
The other means to strike repeatedly and forcefully: Waves battered the shore.
A batter is also the player at bat in baseball or cricket.
To batter someone is to beat them, often in the context of abuse: battered women's shelter.
