plateau

High, level ground

A plateau is a flat, elevated landform that rises sharply above the surrounding area on at least one side.

This geographic feature, also called a tableland, can span vast areas like the Tibetan Plateau or be relatively small.

The word extends figuratively to any period of little change following growth or progress: Sales hit a plateau after the holiday rush.

As a verb, to plateau means to reach such a leveling-off point: My weight loss has plateaued.
