cant

Hypocritical pious talk

Cant is an infrequent word with two primary meanings.

The commoner one is to denote an informal language or dialect used by a relatively small group.

The other meaning is an angle, oblique line, or slant: The wall canted outward.

Cant should not be confused with can’t, the very common contraction of cannot, which requires an apostrophe but may not get one in unedited writing or texting.
