piste
Marked mountain descent
A piste is a marked ski run at a resort—a groomed trail down a mountain.
The word comes from French and appears more commonly in European than American skiing contexts.
Off-piste skiing means venturing beyond marked trails into ungroomed terrain.
In fencing, the piste is the narrow strip where bouts take place.
