seaplane

Pontoon-equipped flier

A seaplane is an aircraft designed to take off from and land on water.

Seaplanes have either pontoons (floatplanes) or boat-shaped hulls (flying boats) instead of wheels.

They serve remote coastal and lake communities where conventional runways don't exist: The mail arrives by seaplane twice a week.
