aileron

Wing's hinged edge

An aileron is a hinged control surface on the trailing edge of an airplane's wing, used to control roll.

Ailerons work in opposite directions—when one rises, the other lowers—causing the aircraft to bank left or right.

The pilot adjusted the ailerons to level the wings.
