wake
Water behind vessel
Two different words are spelled w-a-k-e.
First, to wake is to awaken, or to rouse (yourself or someone else) from sleep or from inattentiveness.
To wake is also to attend a corpse before burial; this verb is not much used now, but the noun wake designates the period before burial when you may view a corpse and console the family of the dead person.
Second, a wake is the disturbance in water left by the passage of a boat.
By extension, the aftereffects of an activity or event are said to be in the wake of it.
