seaplanes

Pontoon-equipped fliers

Seaplanes are aircraft designed to take off from and land on water.

They come in two main types: floatplanes, which have pontoons attached beneath a conventional fuselage, and flying boats, where the hull itself serves as the flotation device.

Seaplanes were crucial for early aviation when suitable runways were scarce, and they remain useful for reaching remote lakes and coastal areas: The seaplane landed on the bay and taxied to the dock.
