Fairbanks
Golden Heart City
Fairbanks is a city in central Alaska, the state's second-largest and its interior hub.
Founded during the 1902 gold rush, it sits near the Arctic Circle and experiences extreme temperature swings—bitterly cold winters and surprisingly warm summers.
The city serves as a gateway to Denali National Park and a center for viewing the northern lights.
Fairbanks is also a surname, notably of Douglas Fairbanks, the swashbuckling silent-film star.
