Sitka

Panhandle cruise destination

Sitka is a city in southeastern Alaska, located on Baranof Island.

It served as the capital of Russian America and briefly as Alaska's territorial capital after the U.S. purchase in 1867.

Sitka spruce, a large conifer native to the Pacific Northwest coast, takes its name from the city: The sitka spruce towered over the rainforest.
