pilothouse

Captain's steering room

A pilothouse is an enclosed structure on a ship or boat containing the steering wheel and navigation equipment.

It provides shelter for the helmsman while offering visibility in all directions.

On smaller vessels, the pilothouse may be the entire bridge; on larger ships, it's typically part of a broader bridge complex.

Also called a wheelhouse.
