pilothouses
Ship steering rooms
Pilothouses are the enclosed compartments on boats or ships from which navigation is controlled.
The pilothouse contains the wheel, instruments, and controls, offering the helmsman protection from weather.
On smaller vessels, it's often called the wheelhouse: The captain retreated to the pilothouse as the storm approached.
