compass
Points north always
A compass is an instrument with a magnetized needle that points north, used for navigation and orientation.
More broadly, compass means range or scope: beyond the compass of human understanding, within the compass of the law.
To compass something is to achieve or encompass it.
A pair of compasses (or simply a compass) is the hinged drafting tool for drawing circles—the two arms pivot around a central point, which connects to the directional compass through the idea of circumscribing or encircling.
