overhead
Fixed operating costs
Overhead refers to what is above your head or above a reference point: overhead lights, overhead compartments on a plane.
In business, overhead means the ongoing costs of running an operation—rent, utilities, salaries—that aren't tied to producing specific goods: Our overhead is killing us.
As an adverb: A plane flew overhead.
An overhead is also a transparency displayed on a projector, or the projector itself.
