femur
Hip-to-knee connector
The femur is the thighbone—the large bone extending from hip to knee.
It's the longest and strongest bone in the human body, bearing most of the weight when standing or walking.
In insects and other arthropods, the femur is the third segment of the leg, typically the thickest part.
Plural: femurs or femora.
