flexion

Muscle bending movement

Flexion is the bending of a limb or joint, the opposite of extension.

In anatomy and physiology, it describes the movement that decreases the angle between bones: flexion of the elbow brings the hand toward the shoulder.

The term appears in medical contexts and exercise science.

Also spelled flection, though flexion dominates in technical usage.
