Inside the bone

Marrow is the soft, fatty tissue inside bones that produces blood cells.

By extension, marrow means the innermost or essential part of something: chilled to the marrow, the marrow of the argument.

In British English, marrow also refers to a large, elongated squash similar to zucchini: stuffed marrow for Sunday dinner.
