osteocyte
Mature skeletal cell
An osteocyte is a mature bone cell embedded within the mineralized matrix of bone tissue.
These cells originate from osteoblasts that become trapped in the bone they help create.
Osteocytes maintain bone structure and communicate through tiny channels called canaliculi, sensing mechanical stress and signaling when bone needs repair or remodeling.
