metatarsals
Long midfoot bones
Metatarsals are the five long bones in the midfoot that connect the ankle to the toes.
Each foot has metatarsals numbered one through five, running from the big toe side to the little toe.
Stress fractures commonly occur in these bones among runners and dancers: She's out for six weeks with a broken metatarsal.
