fibula

Slender leg bone

The fibula is the smaller of the two bones in the lower leg, running parallel to the larger tibia from knee to ankle.

It bears little weight but provides attachment points for muscles.

In archaeology and fashion history, a fibula is also an ancient brooch or clasp, typically metal, used to fasten garments—the pin mechanism resembling a bone's shape.
