erg

CGS energy unit

An erg is a unit of energy or work in the centimeter-gram-second system, equal to the work done by a force of one dyne acting through a distance of one centimeter.

It's a tiny amount—about 100 nanojoules—largely replaced in modern usage by the joule but still encountered in older physics texts.

Separately, an erg is a vast expanse of shifting sand dunes in the Sahara and Arabian deserts.
