allergy
Body attacks harmless
An allergy is an immune system reaction to a substance that's harmless to most people—pollen, peanuts, pet dander, bee stings.
The body treats the substance as a threat, producing symptoms from mild (sneezing, hives) to severe (anaphylaxis).
Figuratively, having an allergy to something means strong aversion: He seems to have an allergy to hard work.
