star

Celestial gas sphere

We use star generally to talk about heavenly bodies visible to us only at night.

Things that look like or have some quality of stars get the same name, such a shape with five points, like an asterisk (*), or a leading actor or athlete (from the idea that they are dazzling).

The most frequent meaning of the verb star is to feature as a star (she starred in “Gone With the Wind”), but it can also convey marking with an asterisk (pay special attention to the items I have starred).

When star precedes another noun, it can indicate either celebrity (star quality), or something astronomical (star formation).
