kilowatt-hour

Electricity billing measure

A kilowatt-hour is a unit of energy equal to one kilowatt of power sustained for one hour.

Electric utilities measure consumption in kilowatt-hours: Our monthly bill showed we used 850 kilowatt-hours.

Often abbreviated kWh.

Not to be confused with kilowatts alone, which measure power rather than energy consumed over time.
